EP. 58 Bayan Obo Rare Earth Elements Deposits : Bayan Obo ประเทศจีน แหล่งสะสมตัวของแร่หายาก ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก
แร่หายาก (Rare Earth Elements, REEs) คือแร่ใน Lanthanide Series + Yttrium and Scandium ที่มีหมายเลขอะตอม 57-71 และธาตุ Scandium และ Yttrium รวม 17 ธาตุ มีประกอบใน crust ทั่วไป แต่ที่สะสมตัวจนเป็นแหล่งแร่มีน้อยมาก Bayan Obo ในมองโกลเลียใน ประเทศจีน มีปริมาณสำรอง 57.4 Mt, grade 6% RE2O3, มี แร่ ไนโอเบียม (niobium, Nb) 2.2 Mt, grade of 0.13% Nb2O5 มีแร่เหล็ก 1500 Mt grade of 35%Fe และแร่ ฟลูออไรต์ (fluorite, F) 130 Mt ทำให้ Bayan Obo เป็นแหล่ง REEs และ ฟลูออไรต์ ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก แร่ REEs ของแหล่งแร่นี้ส่วนใหญ่เป็น Light REE (LREE) ประกอบด้วยธาตุ La, Ce และ Nd มากกว่า 90% REEs ใช้ในการผลิต สินค้า hi tech ต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ neo magnet, Battery รถ EV, จอพลาสมา ผลิตภัณฑ์ lasers และ superconductors เป็นต้น
แหล่งแร่เกิดจากการประทุขึ้นมาของ ultramafic, calcic magma จากชั้น mantle ขึ้นมาสะสมตัวในแอ่งตะกอนกลางทวีป (intra cratonic basin) ที่ประกอบด้วยหินชั้น และหิน mg-carbonate ชุด Bayan Obo Group เมื่อประมาณ 1,400 and 440 Ma. เป็นสายหิน mg-carbonatite หนา 0.5-2.0 m. ยาว 10-200 m. วางตัวในแนว NE, NW และ E-W ประกอบด้วยแร่ dolomite และ calcite ที่มี associated minerals ได้แก่ apatite, monazite, barite, bastnaesite, and magnetite สายแร่มีประมาณ 100 พนังแร่ (dike) บางครั้งเกิดการเปลี่ยนสภาพของผนังสายแร่แบบ metasomatism ทำให้เกิดการแปรสภาพตามรอยสัมผัส (fenites) ให้โซนแร่ sodic amphiboles และ albite
แหล่งแร่แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ore bodies ได้แก่ East, Main และWest orebodies East and Main เกิดเป็นเลนซ์ ร่วมกับ fluoritization พบแร่ riebeckite และ phlogopite ในหิน K-rich slate ในบริเวณที่เกิด fenitization จะมีแร่สมบูรณ์กว่าที่อื่น
The West Orebody, เป็นสายแร่ขนาดเล็กกว่า เกิดในหิน massive dolomite มี Fluorite เกิดร่วมในโซน fenitized dolomite ด้วย
สายแร่ทั้งหมดวางตัวในแนว E-W จากทิศใต้ไปทิศเหนือสามารถพบสายแร่ 4 แบบได้แก่ massive type, banded type, aegirine type และ riebeckite type แร่REEs ที่พบได้แก่ แร่ bastnaesite-(Ce) monazite-(Ce), huanghoite, aeschynite-(Ce), felgusonite, and columbite.
